Spanish Immersion Program
At Wild Roots, we incorporate a Spanish Immersion component into our primary program for children ages 3 and older. In both our primary classrooms, an experienced assistant speaks fluent Spanish to the children in the morning work period. They provide a conversational Spanish language experience while helping the children choose work, engage in practical life and food preparation activities, and in basic care and nurture.
Exposing the children to both English and Spanish in the classroom provides the necessary progression of both languages in order to assist in the development of language acquisition. Immersing young children in another language in a natural way, leads to a more effortless and meaningful learning experience. The children will pick up the language within a few months of regular exposure.
Research has shown that there are numerous cognitive, academic, and social benefits to learning a foreign language. Among the most important reasons language immersion is beneficial to young children is long-term improved reading and science skills, cognitive development, and social and cultural awareness.
