Schedules are evolving and adjustments are being made as our infants have matured their sleeping, playing and eating patterns. We see more of a later morning nap routine as their schedules are aligning with the toddlers. A few of them will also nap in the afternoon based on their needs. We see the infants quickly maturing from three naps a day to one or two naps. Our infants have gained control of their bodies and are now sitting in chairs.
We have also observed the beneficial effect of mixed age learning in the classroom!
The infants are very curious about the toddlers’ movements and are watching their every move. This has created a great learning experience for everyone and gives us a complete family style meal time. Our toddlers have been enjoying baby play for several weeks now. They are practicing skills of compassion, “feeding” and caring for the baby dolls. Our baby corner is complete with a toy potty chair, beds and blankets. We use simple props, or they create their own props by using blocks as phones, which stimulates their imagination and role playing.
The toddlers have become great role models for the infants in a mutual exchange. Our infants and toddlers are broadening their social skills as they sit with one another playing in the book area or climbing the structure together, creating a harmonious classroom. The goal of the classroom ambiance is to be harmonious. It takes several months to achieve this level of harmonious. The children are engaging in the materials individually and together with their peers, which creates a harmonious classroom.
