Growing Through Exploration
The Sage Room supports children during a joyful season of rapid growth and discovery. As movement, language, and personality begin to flourish, children are given the time and space to explore safely, practice new abilities, and participate more fully in classroom life.

Our Educational Approach
Spark Curiosity
Young children learn by touching, moving, repeating, and observing what happens next. Cause-and-effect materials, sensory experiences, early practical-life activities, books, music, and nature exploration encourage them to experiment and make meaningful discoveries.
Nurture Creativity
Painting, sculpting, music, movement, storytelling, loose parts, and open-ended play give children many ways to communicate their ideas. These experiences honor the many ways creativity can be expressed through gestures, sounds, movement, construction, and imaginative play.
Cultivate Independence
Accessible materials and child-sized furnishings invite children to make choices and participate in the daily life of the classroom. They begin carrying their own work from accessible shelves to tables, helping during meals, cleaning up materials, and practicing simple self-care skills with support from their teachers.
A Day in Our Sage Room!
Morning Gathering & Montessori Exploration
Children may begin their day with a short morning gathering featuring songs, fingerplays, movement, and a favorite book. They then explore thoughtfully selected Montessori materials that support early language, fine-motor coordination, problem-solving, and practical-life skills.
Art, Music & Sensory Discovery
Throughout the day, children may paint, draw, explore clay or other sensory materials, dance to music, and experiment with simple instruments. Open-ended art and sensory invitations allow children to explore color, texture, sound, and movement without focusing on a finished product.
Outdoor Play & Emerging Independence
Outdoor time includes cooking and scooping in the mud kitchen, imaginative play in the playhouse, building along the train-track area, and opportunities to climb, carry, push, and explore. Children also participate in everyday routines such as pouring water, serving food, placing dishes in the cleanup area, wiping tables, and returning materials to their shelves.
