Inspired Deeper Thinking
Our Kindergarten curriculum builds upon the Montessori work cycle and Reggio Emilia-inspired project approach through advanced academics, collaborative inquiry, leadership opportunities, and real-world experiences. Students are encouraged to think critically, work with intention, and recognize themselves as capable contributors to their learning community.

Our Educational Approach
Spark Curiosity
Students explore language, mathematics, science, geography, culture, and the environment through increasingly complex lessons and investigations. Their questions may lead to research, experiments, field experiences, interviews, or long-term studies that connect classroom learning to the wider world.
Nurture Creativity
Children are encouraged to approach challenges from multiple perspectives and develop original ways to communicate their understanding. Writing, art, design, construction, presentations, music, and movement give students a variety of ways to express and expand their ideas.
Cultivate Independence
Students learn to plan their work, manage time, set goals, reflect on progress, and advocate for what they need. Leadership roles and classroom responsibilities help them understand that independence also includes accountability and care for the larger community.
A Day in Our Primary Classrooms!
Focused Academic Work
Kindergarten students begin their day with a concentrated work period featuring increasingly advanced lessons in reading, writing, mathematics, science, geography, and culture. Children work independently and in small groups, practicing new concepts, completing multi-step work, and building the organizational skills needed to manage their learning.
Inquiry, Collaboration & the Arts
Long-term projects and classroom provocations invite students to research questions, conduct experiments, document observations, solve problems, and present their discoveries. Art, music, dramatic play, movement, construction, and creative writing remain central ways for children to interpret ideas and demonstrate their understanding.
Leadership, Nature & Reflection
Students continue to enjoy outdoor play, gardening, nature-based learning, the mud kitchen, and opportunities for imaginative and physical play. They also take on classroom responsibilities, support younger peers when appropriate, participate in group discussions, and reflect on their goals, challenges, and accomplishments.
DAILY LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Wild Roots’ TK / Kindergarten students are given daily opportunities to act as leaders in the primary program. This includes giving lessons, helping others, role modeling their work ethic. This leadership aides in reinforcement of confidence and pride.
SMALL GROUPS — INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION
Small groups allow for social and intellectual connectivity in all areas.

OPTIMIZING LEARNING ROUTINES
The children spend mornings working on core skills and receiving lessons. In the afternoon, they work collaboratively in the Atelier on projects where they practice and use the skills they’ve just learning. They work on creative and interest-led projects with various tools and mediums.
PROVIDING ENRICHMENT
Educational and enriching field trips (families are often invited!) allow children to experience in-depth and meaningful studies as extensions of their classroom work.
